Rockwell RK5101K Sonicrafter Review
I had seen a video promo on TV about this product and it does everything it promised. I especially love it for working on crown mouldings and baseboards as we live in a very old house and I am currently renovating….As a female hobbyist I find this tool very easy to use and to handle. I would recomend it as a must to any workshop.

I bought this product for a specific purpose (removal of a broken tile). It did the job well enough, but I found, as other reviewers have done, that the attachment screw worked loose very easily. This problem was reduced when I placed less pressure on the machine and let it do the job itself. I think it will prove to be a useful enough tool to have around, especially for smaller cutting and sanding jobs. However, it is expensive.

Used tool to cut door moulding bottoms in preparation for laying tile. Worked great!! Especially liked ability to mount blade at ~90 degree angle to get into a corner. Blade cut the moulding like butter. Initially, blade vibrated loose, but tightened the screw a little tighter and had no more problems. Tool is reasonably quiet–more of a low level hum than a buzz. Comes with decent case. Definitely would buy again.

I’ve used this tool while remodeling my bathroom this month. I cut an exact rectangle in the bottom of a cabinet to accommodate an air conditioning duct and it fit perfect. I used the scraper to get old lining paper out from the drawers. I sanded in tight places that I normally would have to do by hand. I have never had such an exact cutting and sanding tool like the Sonicrafter. This is the perfect tool if remodeling is the job your doing.

So, this is my first weekend with 37-pice Sonicrafter. The job is to strip layers of old paint from a metal radiator cover. I mounted the scraper on, dialed up the variable speed to recommended high and went ahead only applying gentle pressure. After 5 minutes I had to remove my hand from the metal front area. It became way too hot to touch. As a matter of fact, I would never use any other tool at this temperature. To Sonicrafter’s credit it didn’t produce any smoke and kept turning it off every 10-12 minutes. Contacted Rockwell’s Customer Service and was advised to exchange the unit. At this point I am not sure if exchange is the right way. Maybe I should shell out more dollars and step up to Multimaster?

Rockwell RK9000 Jawhorse Review
I purchased this Rockwell Jawhorse from Amazon a couple of weeks ago. Fast delivery and set it up in 2 minutes. Comes completely assembled. Never had a piece of equipment before that was a fold up piece and yet so amazingly sturdy. Used it the first day I received it and have more projects that it will be used on. This is a perfect unit for tradesmen in the field as it folds up very compactly and is easy to carry and place on a back floor or seat of most any kind of vehicle. It does everything the manufacturer says it does and more. I use a lot of jigs in my woodworking and this Jawhorse adds to their effectiveness.

The Jawhorse is well designed and especially sturdy! I do all my home remodeling and maintenance alone. It makes my projects easier and adds a significant margin of safety! I keep finding new things it will do and has become the first tool I set up even if it’s just used as a portable work table!

This is a well thought out and solidly built device. It is about 43 lbs. but has a built in roller for moving it around. After reading the small manual it is easy to operate. I wish they had enclosed more examples of uses and applications but the users will have no problem find uses for this thing. Only time will tell about durability but it appears tuff. I would tell any person who works with their hands to by one.

This is a well made, solid workplace tool, worthy of all its positive reviews. Setup and operation are both simple and intuitive. Basically, a ratcheting jaw (similar to the old car jack style) is used to provide clamping action. The jaw can be reversed on its slide so you can clamp wide items or close it completely, plus the jaw faces are surfaced with hard rubber pads and are wide and rigid enough to clamp items vertically. The ratchet is operated by a foot pedal. When pressed down at full clamp, you push a conveniently located switch on the front to lock the ratchet in place. Easily released catches allow the unit to be folded compactly for storage. For some reason a roller is built in for towing it around when folded up, which I find to be basically about as useful as your appendix although it might be useful for those with some kind of restricted motion issue. The third leg is easy to seat for making use of the unit, and easily pulls clear of its seat to pivot as needed when closing up the unit (it also serves as a tow bar for towing a closed up unit on its roller). It has a clamp down screw with a plastic encased turn down that will hold it tight if you turn hard enough. It’s not critical that it be turned tight, but is advisable.

I also purchase a companion piece, the Rockwell Jawhorse RK9109 Plywood Jaw Accessory Attachment, and for my purposes it’s been well worth it. It’s simply a replacement jaw for the one that comes with the Jawhorse, but in contrast provides a significantly wider opening. It’s too long to be reversed, so you still need both jaws. Sliding a jaw on or off the unit is quite easy, so that’s not an issue with using it. To fully support something as big as a 4×8 sheet of plywood, you need to add outriggers or use some other means to support the overhang (hardly surprising). The accessory comes with 2 clamps appropriate for producing outriggers from 2×2 or 2×4 stock (think in terms of the outriggers as being an 8′ piece with legs clamped to each end … the outriggers’ cross piece sits inside the clamp’s jaws to support the plywood’s overhang).

Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-pc Kit Review
I had looked at the Fein Multimaster, but couldn’t justify the price. I bought the Sonicrafter specifically to sand between the rails of a baby crib I built for my daughter. This tool will see as much use as my random orbital sander! It’s very well made, and does a superb job. A couple of experiential comments: 1. The tool is a fast worker, let IT do the work for you. 2. The dust collection attachment gets in the way, and is useless. 3. I haven’t found a source for sanding pads that fit, except Rockwell, and they’re relatively expensive.

We are in the process of remodeling our kitchen. We needed a handy tool. Rockwell become kind of disappointment. It feel good in your hands. Looks solid. That is positive, on negative side: blades are expensive, cheaply made – becoming dull just after few uses. Tool gets hot really quickly. Blades are becoming loose after few uses, no matter how hard you try to tight them up. In conclusion I think this tool is design for small jobs and only occasional use not for serious jobs.

It seemed like the answer, but created another question…why would Rockwell attach it’s name to a tool that burns more wood than it saws?? The apparatus for attaching the various blades is suspect at best. I broke the segmented saw blade first time out. Other attachments kept coming lose as well. It’s not rocket science, but those items with a flush mount are suspect. Those with recessed mount are much better, i.e. the sanding attachment and carbide segmented saw blade. The head and blades do get very hot, and I wasn’t doing anything terribly complicated! It is a great sander, but the price is a bit high. There’s a reason why (when affordable) we opt for German engineering. Though I haven’t tried the Fein model, I know it’s blades attach differently (and hopefully) more securely!

In my admittedly limited use of the product so far, I have been very pleased with its versatility and usability. The weight of the product which, at first, seemed to be a liability, actually allows greater control of the tool by providing stability when cutting or sanding. Unlike a rotary tool (like a Dremel), the Sonicrafter stays where you put it and since the blade oscillates instead of rotating, it doesn’t generate nearly as much dust or debris. The contents of the 72 piece kit appear to be well thought out. The small sanding pad has been especially useful; allowing work in tight spaces without disassembling the project. I have not made use of the dust collection system included with the 72-piece kit, so I can’t comment on its efficacy except to say that it doesn’t interfere with the use of the Sonicrafter. I’ve been able to complete all my projects with it in place. A very solidly built and well thought out product.
